In the spring of 1918, after the Reds had lost Tampere and fled in large numbers towards the east with the Whites and Germans in pursuit, the last major battles of the Civil War were fought on the bridges, in the villages, and along the roads of Pälkäne, Hauho, and Tuulos. After the battles ended and the Reds surrendered, the purges began.
